At LEGO Education, they want to continue inspiring educators and parents to bring STEAM learning home with whatever time, space or toys they have access to.

Inspired by the amazing creations being shared by people on social media, the LEGO company dug deep into its archives and assembled LEGO designers, creatives and play experts from across the organization to come up with new ways to help families stay creative and connected while at home.

Check out these 10 tips for at home learning with all ages and types of learners in mind. From creating a scary monster to creating a chain reaction and seeing what happens, with a bit of creativity everyone can bring STEAM learning from the classroom to their living room.

• Cleaning up doesn’t have to be a chore! Make it a playful learning opportunity – sort, label, count, and categorize as you go. You can sort by a different method each time such as color or size. Make it a race or slow things down and discuss the function of each piece and how it was or could be used as you pick up.

• Need to transport your child’s amazing creation? Reuse a cardboard box or lid from a storage bin!

• Create a STEAM at Home Space where you and your student can explore these fun and exciting subjects!

• Build with your student! It’s a great family activity and can be relaxing for adults too! You might even learn something new yourself!

• Create an engineering or design notebook for your child! Document all of your hard work step by step. Record the problem, the design challenges, or things you need so your child can reflect on whether final solution provides a great resolution to the original problem.

• Take a Brain Break! Complete quick builds with students as a break from other work or when your child needs a few minutes to get hands on. Try it with the LEGO Six Bricks concept.

• Make sharing part of the process! Have your child talk about their creations and ask “W” questions: “Why did you use that piece?”, “What decisions did you make?”, “Where did your run into challenges?”, and “How did you overcome the challenges?”

• Challenge your child to think in a new way! “What would happen if you removed all bricks that have more than 10 studs?” "How could you overcome this challenge?” “How does it change the build or design of the model?”

• Become a storyteller! Challenge your child to create a story to go with their creation, and allows the build to come to life in new ways.
