My Review

Right away you can guess that a male coach of a female team will have to deal with some drama. But ironically a lot of the drama comes from the coach and not the girls.

The main storyline of “Big Shot,” surrounds Coach Korn (John Stamos) learning how to deal with people on a more humane level, which includes being supportive instead of critical. An important lesson the girls basketball team helps the coach learn while sharing tidbits of their lives.

Each of the girls on the basketball team brings a diverse life perspective that makes you want to know more about them and root for them to succeed. These girls are not stereotypical and they're dealing with real life matters including brain injury, death of a parent, sexual identity .... all in positive ways.

It's exciting to watch.

I think “Big Shot” is a show that will be enjoyed by teens girls who want to watch something else besides typical girls shows about boys, shopping and makeup. The girls in “Big Shot” care about more then that and love playing the sport of basketball as seriously as any "boy" team.

This is a great message for Coach Korn and for anyone watching “Big Shot,” series.

After watching the first few episodes of “Big Shot,” I wanted to know a little more about the history of women's basketball. I found out some really cool facts and wanted to share.

  • Women’s basketball began in 1892, less than a year after the game was invented.
  • Basketball is normally played in two 20 minute halves. WNBA games are played in four 10 minute quarters.
  • In 1985, Lynette Woodard became the first woman to join the famous Harlem Globetrotters basketball team.
  • On Oct. 8, 2009, Diana Taurasi became the first Latina to earn the Finals MVP after, leading the league in scoring, 20.4 points per game, for the third time in four seasons.
  • There is a hall of fame specifically devoted to women's basketball. Located in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame opened in 1999. The building houses artifacts and memorabilia commemorating the history of women's basketball. The hall also recognizes contributors to women's basketball.

After getting ousted from the NCAA, a men’s basketball coach is given a chance for redemption with a coaching position at an elite private high school.

He soon learns that the teenage players require empathy and vulnerability — foreign concepts for the stoic coach. By learning how to connect with his players, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be. The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and off the court.
