Argentine actress Alexia Moyano plays Adriana, the marine biologist in My Penguin Friend film, who discovers DinDim the penguin and his unique habit of returning to a fisherman outside his habitat.

Note: I was invited as media for #MyPenguinFriend screening and interview. However any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

Alexia's role highlights what happens during penguin research, but also how an individual's actions can be the start of something amazing happening on a larger scale.

During my interview with Alexia, that was one of the topics we discussed, along with the importance of these type of movies, highlighting the Hispanic community, as well as ecological themes.

What interest you in the role and character

Alexia Moyano: I realized Adriana touched me. I felt I have a lot of things in common with her. And she has values, like the respect for nature and minorities. And she is open to the one that is different or has a different behavior.

I think it's very nice, how the director and the script writer really decided to tell that part of the story. Because I feel that Adriana, my character, she has to do what her boss told her to do, you know, and the other one (biologists) agrees with the boss.

Alexia Moyano: So I felt that even though she's not comfortable with the decision, and she tries to convince herself, okay, just just go with it, there's nothing you can do, when the door opens, you know, she let's that succeed.

On set with the Penguins

Alexia Moyano: I learned a lot about the Penguins, including they are very sensible. And one thing that I learned, because we took a lot of care of that in the set, is that if they get stressed, they lose weight.

So then when they arrive to the set, we will weight them. There was people who, not myself, but they will weight them. And then at the end of the day when they finish, we will weigh them again. And if they have lose weight, it was that they were not comfortable.

Alexia Moyano: But there are no penguins losing weight during the shooting. So they were happy to live with us.

I also learned a lot about this, penguin GPS. I learned a lot about, you know, about the couples (penguins) that they just stay their whole life together. I realize that they have exceptions of that too. And I think I agree and I'm happy that they have exceptions.

Why this type of movie important, especially for Hispanic families

Alexia Moyano: I think because it speaks about friendship, loneliness. Also it has a different Rhythm.

Really, the whole family can can enjoy the movies. We really can share this with friends and with kids. We are showing them, a different type of Cinema that probably has more in contact, then the movies that were for the whole family in the 80 kids.

You know, another stories. And I think it's good that some people keep trusting, that you can do these sorts of things.

Alexia Moyano: For example, I really appreciate a movie that really speaks a lot about our society. It's that we were able to maintain our accents in English. And I think that they really had courage in that, you know.

You have to have courage to really stand up. The director has to stand up for me, and I really appreciate that. They allow us to have a main actor, that he was born in Africa, raised in France, by speaks English and also speak Spanish, you know.

Alexia Moyano: The kids, one kid is from Colombia, there's another ones from Brazil, we are Argentinians and we have three different accents. The three biologists, we have different accents. And we were allowed to have them.

And that I think speaks a lot about a direction, the production and the cinema worldwide.
