Gravitas Ventures's "The Nana Project" is now available on Digital + On Demand and offers a delightful story of a zesty grandmother bonding with her grandsons in a unique way - playing chess.

My Review

The Nana Project appealed to me as a film that highlights the special bond grandparents have with grandkids, especially near adult ones. Not alot of modern films touch on this suject. But The Nana Project gave me more story-wise then just family bonding.

Mercedes Ruehl was vibrant and hilarious as "Nana". Watching her life in the "daycare" set the tone for the film. There will be no boring old nana adventure. This nana was still living and kicking strongly.

Mercedes as Nana she brought the same energy to dealing with her grandsons, while going on the road to play chess. Those boys had relatable issues of modern young adults, but Nana found ways to break through and show them what's really important.

It's that energy, focus and fun that makes The Nana Project enjoyable to watch for families with older children and the grandparents.

SYNOPSIS

The Nana Project | Official Trailer | Gravitas Ventures

Nana is a very strong and competitive matriarch of the family. Her goal is to win the state chess tournament, and she will do anything to pull that off. It is amazing that an elderly person has the extremely sharp faculties to be competing at all.

However, her real motive is to reunite her two grandsons, who have been estranged for years, by recruiting them both to help on her journey.

Nana and the two brothers have fun experiences on their road trips for lower qualifying chess matches which begin to bring them together. In the end, Nana loses the tournament but the three of them celebrate in this heartwarming, unlikely and always funny comedy.
