Celebrate Korean Culture Kiln to Kimchi at AMNH
Join The American Museum of Natural History for "From Kiln To Kimchi: A Celebration of Korean Culture" on March 14.
During this event, you will explore the deep connections between craft and cuisine through the rich heritage of Korean pottery.
Hosted in the Museum’s Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation, and taking inspiration from displays of Korean pottery in the Louis V. Gerstner, Jr. Collections Core.
Event Activities
Event activities will include:
Guided tastings of classic Korean flavors, including kimchi, japchae, ramyun, soju, and more from local vendors and restaurants, including Kimchi Kooks, JUMO soju cocktails, Hana Makgeolli, and others
Pottery demonstrations by Korean American artist Dave Kim with the opportunity to ask questions about his artistic process, and the display of ceramic works by artists Janny Baek and Jane Yang D’Haene
A deep dive into the science behind fermentation with Soohwan Kim, a doctoral researcher at the Georgia Institute of Technology, through presentations about the iconic dish of kimchi and its relationship to onggi pots—handcrafted vessels used for fermenting kimchi for over 7,000 years
A curated pop-up marketplace featuring goods from over a dozen local Korean American artists, including ceramics, stationery, apparel, and more
Engagements with Museum scientists and staff as they present rarely seen Korean pottery pieces from the Museum’s collection, providing insight into their cultural and historical significance
Music by NYC-based DJ Peach, featuring KPOP and recent top hits

This program is for ages 21+.
Tickets are available are $25 for access to all activities, performances, and food tastings, and $50 for access to all activities, performances, food and alcohol tastings.
